ITouch-FI Satellite Observation Station: A Gaze into the Sky

Integrating Global Networks: The ITouch-FI Initiative

Situated in the Çukurova region of Turkey, the ITouch-FI ground station (ID: 3420) represents a significant stride in astronomical research, operating within the SatNOGS Open Source global network of satellite ground stations. This station, distinguishable on the SatNOGS network map by a small green icon, symbolizes a nexus of technological and astronomical advancement. Having successfully navigated through extensive testing phases, the station is now fully operational and under continuous refinement.

Low Earth Orbit Monitoring: Scope and Impact

The “Future Passes” algorithm empowers the ITouch-FI station to effectively monitor and record data from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, including the International Space Station (ISS). Observational data, accessible through the Observations link, encompasses both the scheduled and realized tracking missions, providing insights into their success and challenges.

Analytical Proficiency in Signal Processing

By engaging with successful observational data, researchers and enthusiasts can analyze the signal waterfall graphs, audit the associated audio, and download pertinent data files. The station’s capacity for Telemetry Decode is critical for extracting substantial information from these transmissions. Utilizing a suite of sophisticated decoding methodologies, including APT, AFSK 1k2, AX.25, CW, DUV, GFSK 9k6, and FSK 9k6, as well as LRPT demodulators, the station effectively interprets diverse signal types. Further technical details are available on the Decode Telemetry and Packets page.

Research and Educational Outcomes

The analysis of telemetry data from FOX satellites, as well as real-time imaging from NOAA satellites, not only serves as a practical application of theoretical knowledge but also contributes to the body of astronomical research. Key observational examples, such as ISS data (link) and NOAA 15 and 19 observations (link 1, link 2), showcase the station’s capabilities.
